The story of how I built the list appears at the end in case you’re interested.
I decided I should start sharing the great content I found in this quest so I created the Twitter account @WomenBikeBlogs, which features new blogs and feeds links to new posts from previously featured blogs. The associated Facebook page has the news feeds as well.
This is a quest that will never end, so ladies (and the men who read their blogs), it’s your turn.
If you know of a currently active blog written by a woman that focuses on biking or includes enough bike-related content that you think of it as a bike blog, fill out the form below (afteryou look at the list to see if it’s already on there!).
I will update the live list every so often with your entries. Last update: May 13, 2012, 601 blogs. In this update I took over 90 defunct blogs off the list–”defunct” defined as not having posted in months or possibly years since I last looked at them. They’re perhaps of historical interest so I still have the data–should I post them on a separate page for reference?
If you’re so inspired by some of these that you start your own biking blog don’t forget to come back and add it to the list!
And now for The List, with Twitter handles and geographic location.
The Genesis of “The (Pretty Darned) Comprehensive List of Women’s Bike Blogs”//
Know of a Women’s Bike Blog not on “The List”? Tell Us & We’ll Add It!
That’s quite a claim in the title. I’m putting it out there because I’ve searched and searched and either it’s on page 200 of the Google results or it’s not out there. Or, well–it is out there now because it’s here.
My hunt started in fall of 2010 quite innocently with a Google search: women’s bike blogs list. I figured someone, somewhere, had compiled something like this.
But—eerily reminiscent of my earlier search for a list of Spokane blogs (described on my personal blog)—I only found small personal lists people had compiled as blog posts. I tweaked the search terms (women’s biking blogs, ladies cycling, etc.), tried again, lather-rinse-repeat any number of times.
At the time Wikipedia’s entry on Cycle Chic only listed 17, which isn’t even a comprehensive list of just the blogs with Cycle Chic in their names. I found a couple of small directories but you have to know they’re out there and submit your blog directly, which doesn’t create a comprehensive list as effectively as an active search. Obsession has its up side.
I already subscribed to some great blogs so I started following links from blogrolls. I realized I was getting lost in which ones I’d seen and which ones I hadn’t. I started a spreadsheet to keep track.
Then it dawned on me—I was building “the comprehensive list of women’s cycling blogs” I had been seeking.
The well-known blogs like Let’s Go Ride a Bike and BikeShopGirl show up again and again, and justifiably so. The real sense of discovery, however, lay in finding a blog that wasn’t on anyone else’s blogroll.
Those serendipitous links kept me going and took me into various nooks and crannies of the biking world from racing to mountain biking to biking mommy bloggers, freestyle BMX competitors, fashionistas and photographers, to name a few.
Notes on my “system”:
The basic list of links appears here in alphabetical order; all blog titles that begin with an actual numeral appear first.
Librarians and other fans of order may find it frustrating that I capitalized blogs beginning with “A” under A and those with “The” under the letter T. That’s what an electronic sort does for you, for one thing. And for another thing as a writer I could never understand why alphabetizing should disregard articles anyway. They carry meaning. The author chose a word or the words. So there they are.
I’ve included all the Cycle Chic™ blogs I could find even though some are not created by women.
I included male/female teams as long as the female voice is really represented on the blog.
And there you have it: What I believe is the web’s biggest list of women’s bike blogs. Happy reading!
WOW – no idea how you found me, but I am pleased as punch to be included in the list! As of late, the bike blog has been more about running than cycling, but I am ever inspired to keep it up, with much thanks to you and other ladies out there!
Thanks so much for including Loop-Frame Love on your list! What a great idea! We have four cobloggers, and not all of us are on Twitter, so we created an account for the blog: @LoopFrameLove.
Thanks for including the Grease Rag! Might want to add: @greaseragmpls
I think it would be interesting to know what people look for when they look for bike blogs written by women, because there are so many different types out there! I personally love blogs that show the day-to-day accessibility of biking, blogs written by women that live in the midwest cities, and blogs that have enthusiasm for living car-free and I love to read about new and exciting ways that women are encouraging each other to bike.
I know that others are more into fitness, or fashion, and probably a ton of other sub-genres that I don’t even know about! I’m curious about what people read and why. Do you have any ideas about that?
Our blog is a collaborative blog about teaching mechanical skills to WTF (women/ trans/ femme) cyclists in Minneapolis, riding together, and socializing. Thanks again for the shout-out!
I started trying to categorize the blogs so you could find them by interests. Some are quite clear: they’re about racing, or cyclocross, or mountain biking, or fashion, or touring, or whatever. Others are personal blogs that roam across lots of topics, with biking in there a little or a lot, and the categories were all my own assessment of the primary focus.
I may give it a try on the next update, though–put up a table format with a couple of cells for primary and secondary topics and invite the bloggers to tell me if I got them right.
In creating the list I logged a lot of Internet miles and didn’t stop to evaluate every blog’s topic so completing the table will definitely take some time. It would add to the utility and I want this to be a growing resource.
I’m flattered you included my blog Vélocouture; it is written by a man (me) but as much of the content is reader-sourced, a lot of it (perhaps most of it?) comes from women who document their experiences.
I’m on twitter too so you can add that. @patrickbarber. All best.
Oh, Ashley, there there [hands over a tissue–but wait–you have bike gloves and they have that handy little soft patch on the thumb, or at least the good ones do, as whined about here http://bikestylespokane.com/2011/05/11/its-snot-pretty/.
What a great idea! I look forward to the adventure of working my way through your list and discovering some neat bike blogs that I was unaware of. Thank you for putting this list together!
Thank you for adding me to your list. My blog is “I Never Promised You an Organic Garden”. It is exciting to see so many other women cyclists. Here in Richmond, Indiana there are not very many women cyclists and certainly not many women bike commuters.
Hi !
Thanks for this list, I will enjoy looking through them all.
I live (and ride lots) in the Vancouver BC area
but also travel around and bike wherever I go
I have 2 bike blogs that I maintain, one is for easy cycling for kids, families, little-old-lady riders, etc
It is called Let’s Go Biking and the url is http://www.letsgobiking.net/
The other blog is for rides I have enjoyed and think others might, or cycle travelling around the world, or for interesting links and articles on Bike Clothing, etc.
It is called Cycling Cycling Cycling and the url is http://www.colleenrides.com/
If possible, could you add these to your list? Much appreciated ! ~ Colleen MacDonald
I don’t see Elly Blue’s blog: Taking the Lane: http://takingthelane.com/about/ on twitter @ellyblue
She doesn’t write always about biking, but she does about biking a lot!
Thanks for contacting me. What an extensive list! Never knew there were so many other women cyclists out there who blog. I’m just starting but hopefully I’ll contribute enough to warrant a spot on your list.

Incredible list. wow.wow.wow.
This morning’s post on Girlsonbikes.org mentions the list. I wish there was some way we could all be collaborative and present a semi-united front! Perhaps this list is the start.

Wow, this list is amazing! Now it’s time to kill Thanksgiving break reading every single one. And thanks in advance for including my blog (Speeding Pedalcycle)!
Aha! April, you solved the mystery. Traffic to the blog shot off the charts (relative to past performance) yesterday and is already spiked this morning beyond a normal day. Thank you! Getting featured on a Portland bike blog is like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval
Oh, on the “semi-united front” front–I thought of designing a little icon we could all display on our blogs. There are so many and the list keeps changing so it’s not realistic for all to link to all, but if all link to the list then the list drives traffic back out to the blogs on the list. So far today over 200 people have looked at blogs and it’s only 7:30 a.m. my time.
Karen Etchells writes about experiences she and her husband, David, share with their enthusiasm for tandem cycling. As active 40-somethings, aspects of parenting and family, eating well, and maintaining good health are common topics.

With Interbike so close, it felt appropriate to refresh this list, which has grown considerably. Like last time, this partial list only looks at blogger influence and not twitter, Facebook or soon Google+ influences.
The list can’t capture all the influence–no list can. It does include Twitter handles and I’ve started collecting Facebook page links, so a future update will have those as well. I’m not seeking to be “the analytics of women bike bloggers” source–just a gathering space to let us learn from and connect with each other. I hope it brings everyone lots of readers!
Cycling Chic Copenhagen has started a global movement — we can see many links pointing to Mikael’s blog (not ‘her’ indeed). This sub-community is rocking the blogosphere, or shall say women are rocking it! Women bloggers are a definite force to be reckoned with in the cycling world.
