#30DaysOfBiking, Days 15-26: The Twitter Story

View from the Duwamish Trail on my ride to work.

Doing a blog post every day fell off the to-do list but that doesn’t mean I stopped riding. I’m rolling rapidly toward the end of the month with a nice mix of commuting, errands, and neighborhood noodling. Herewith, the last couple of weeks as shared on Twitter.

Day 15 #30DaysOfBiking: Jumped on Zelda after driving back from Olympia and just noodled around the neighborhood looking at the sunset and the trees. pic.twitter.com/M3ZexKEkGI— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 16, 2019

Mileage: 1.25
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 16 #30DaysOfBiking: Went for bike/transit combo to have some email time on the bus + some other reason… Oh, right, afternoon rain forecast – – didn’t pack my rain skirt so I’m glad I don’t live too far from my bus stop. Today’s bike: Tessa the foldie. pic.twitter.com/49oMcKkr0M— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 17, 2019

Mileage: 1.5
Location: Seattle
Bike: Tessa the Folding Bike (Tessa, by the way, is short for Tessaract)

Day 17 #30DaysOfBiking (forgot to tweet yesterday): Zelda there and back again, 17+ miles. Discovered another side street. [pix: me ready to ride, Zelda the #EBike by a little path] pic.twitter.com/rerzF5QJ2Q— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 18, 2019

Mileage: 17.34
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 18, #30DaysOfBiking: In a day that included speaking at a bike event + talking about #30DaysOfBiking on #BikeSchool I ended up doing a check-the-box ride in the driveway when I got back from Olympia. Thinking about how to get a bike ride in your day is what it’s all about.— Barb Chamberlain

Day 19 #30DaysOfBiking: Grocery store run on Zelda. It was getting late but the rain had stopped. 4.43 miles in 21 minutes round trip, easy peasy lemon squeezy. Why would I drive? #BicyclesChangeLives pic.twitter.com/rlbk0qNr9k— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 20, 2019

Mileage: 4.43
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 20 #30DaysOfBiking: After some yardwork, rode ~6mi for errands + a stop at @DubseaCoffee for a smoothie with my Sweet Hubs. Yay sunshine and blue skies! pic.twitter.com/07BdRo8fBt— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 21, 2019

Mileage: 5.93
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 21 #30DaysOfBiking: Did a lot of cooking today, ran up against that unimaginable problem of running out of fresh garlic, biked to groceries on Zelda, home to cook some more. pic.twitter.com/shPVti6cmz— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 22, 2019

Mileage: 7.2
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 22 #30DaysOfBiking: 17.33mi on Zelda. Rode during breaks in a rainy day. My marker to know when to leave the office end of a rainy day: Listen for birds to start singing. Better than a weather app.— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 23, 2019

Mileage: 17.33
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 23 #30DaysOfBiking: Grocery run 4.41mi that illustrates why I always carry a little backpack + why I appreciate the strong elastic cords built into Zelda’s rack. Carrying capacity is about volume as much as it is about weight. #HaulingStuffByBike pic.twitter.com/2EfgzYxE98— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 24, 2019

Mileage: 4.41
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 24 #30DaysOfBiking: Took Tessa the foldie to Olympia. So much easier to park at WSDOT HQ, then bike to meeting of Pedestrian Safety Advisory Council and park on the very meta bike rack. Did my #BikeStyle fix so flowing skirt didn’t get caught. #WSDOTactive pic.twitter.com/rp8XqfbfSC— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 24, 2019

Mileage: 1.85 (and this day also checked the box for my version of a “triathlon“: bike + walk at least 5,000 steps + do yoga)
Location: Olympia
Bike: Tessa the Foldie

To illustrate the importance of skirt management, here’s my tweet from the Portland trip in which I learned this skirt can function as an abrupt stopping mechanism.

One casualty in my multimodal day: Skirt caught in brakes, had to pop tire off to free the fashion. No crash, no permanent dress damage but for a second there it wasn’t #HowIRoll, it was #HowIStopAbruptly. #BikeStyle pic.twitter.com/DLXuotPuP8— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) February 23, 2019

Day 25 #30DaysOfBiking: Rode “Tour de Dead End Streets” (neighborhood has several), chatted with a neighbor I haven’t talked to in a while who was out walking his dogs. Wouldn’t have happened if I were driving because who drives down a dead end for no reason? #BicyclesChangeLives— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 26, 2019

Mileage: 1.5
Location: Seattle
Bike: Zelda the E-Bike

Day 26 #30DaysOfBiking: Fell asleep on the sofa at the end of a long week so I just did a check the box ride on Zelda up to the end of the block and back in the dark and windy night. The beauty of 30 days of biking is that this totally counts.— Barb Chamberlain (@barbchamberlain) April 27, 2019
